Anyone get that? No? Aw.
Here's why DJ Hero is cool, but will ultimately fail.
It's complicated. The music is not for everyone.
Yeah, pretty much these two reasons explain why I like DJ Hero, and why it will not sell.
Imagine that you have a bunch of people over. Being a cool dude, you decide to set up a music game. After the 4 of you finish up an initial song, you take off your stupid plastic controllers and offer them to anyone nearby. This is the moment which makes or breaks a game.
In this instant, you hand the controller to someone new and explain how to play. Guitar Hero? That's easy to explain. Drums? Easier. Vocals? You don't even have to explain. In that instant you pass the DJ Controller, how are you going to explain fading, scratching, freestyle zones, and button presses without having a diagram or a demonstration?
Nope, can't be done. Keep this game locked away from parties.
And since it won't be shown to people not familiar with games, it will not reach a mainstream audience. As such, it will shrivel and die.
Sad, really. |
