| Real Love |
[Jun. 22nd, 2006|08:04 pm] |
Now tell me, do you understand the meaning of love? It's more than just sex, kisses, money and hugs It's like a sparkling match locked away in your soul and once it spark, you heart will never let go While you hold onto me you feel like I'm the one cause you never felt to touch up someone that was as real as me All these nights we... share together we cherish every moment knowing things don't last forever but baby you still... hoping this was real Then show me that our roses can bloom together blooming forever, blooming through the four seasons of weather Sharing your most darkest secrets that you locked in the dark tears fall down your eyes while holding me tight by your heart letting me know how you feel inside feeling so right telling me I'm the only girl in your life If it's real, then show me it's real don't keep it concealed cuz love is the one thing I wish I could feel from my homie, my lover, my best friend in my life to my baby, my boy someday I'll call my man
We share the most beautiful thing in this world together so we should, love each other, for worse or for better Love and companion, understanding girl that I'll be our hearts united as one, fulfilling our destinies can you show me this is real and not a dream? Living this life really makes it hard to believe If I give my heart away baby please don't let it break If you give your love to me promise it'll never be replaced It's like an emotional high, see the love in my eyes and when we dream this is what we both fantasize Can this dream be real? This is how you feel I wish this is real so our dreams would be fulfilled |

I can't believe I'm still alive...
So after a week of living in the lab, I finally got 6 plastic tubes full of DNA. Today was trying to extract that DNA. What I was suppose to do: Take a needle and stick it through the plastic so I could pull out the DNA band. What actually happened was...
The DNA in the tube was dyed with an extremely toxic chemical (bisbenzamide) and only shows under UV light (it also contained other mutagens). I tried to punch the needle through the plastic without stabbing myself (and getting all those lethal things in my blood). And as the needle pushes through, all that lethal stuff goes SPRAYING out of the tube, and I had to jump back so I don't get killed. Then, I have to look into the UV light and make sure I'm getting the right section of DNA and not any other junk inside the tube. And, of course, working with UV light means I get to do ALL this in the dark...
Meanwhile, my two bosses (who came to watch me just for fun) are laughing behind me like "wow, I'm so glad I'm not the one doing this."
But, I'm still alive... |

So it's official, Ben L and I will be the HKSA cultural show hosts this year. Everyone come to the show! Yay!
Due to popular demand (so ok, it was just a few requests), I shall add a lil news column on my xanga... so, as often as I can, I'll add some noteworthy news at the bottom of my regular entries (for those who are too lazy to read the news, but not too lazy to read xangas *ahem*)
And I think it'll be fun to add some stupid news too...
**News Column** ~Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who has been in a coma from a stroke since last month, is rushed into emergency surgery from a "most critical state" with an expectancy to die. But! Latest news is that he survives the surgery (which removed a large part of his large intestines) with "no immediate danger", but he is still in a coma. The Israeli election is 6 weeks away, and polls prior to his stroke showed that Sharon would be likely to remain prime minister.
~Bird flu H5N1 that originated in Asia around 2003 has recently spread to Middle East, Africa (Nigeria), and Europe (Italy & Greece). A different strain of bird flu H7 (which posts no risk to humans) has been found in Delaware, US. Authorities around the world has ordered about 150 millions (maybe more) birds slaughtered. The World Health Organization has confirmed 165 human cases with 53% fatality, and worries a mutation of the virus would cause a global pandemic that would kill millions of people.
~Haiti - After a record-high voter turn-out election that included riots, stampedes, and protests, Haiti's former president Preval is looking at a possible reelection. He is considered a champion of the poor, and his campaign promises reconciliation of social classes, universal education, free meals for poor children, more foreign investments, etc, to bring Haiti back from anarchary and the verge of collapse.
~Journalism Threatened - in China, a journalist was beaten to death by several police officers whom he exposed to be abusing authority. There has been no news of an investigation yet, and probably won't be investigated (like many cases before). - in Mexico, yet another newsroom attacked by exposed drug dealers, leaving one reporter dead. In the string of reprisals for exposing corruption and drug trades, few of the journalist murders get investigated because most of the police are corrupted by drug dealers. Both countries are ranked as some of the most dangerous places to practice journalism. In Mexico, however, President Vicente Fox has announced that he will not "tolerate attempts to silence the press".
*Stupid News* For an annual fundraiser that raises money to send poor children to summer camp, the Brooklyn borough president had ordered fortune cookies stuffed with Brooklyn slogans. But instead, a box of X-rated fortune cookies with "graphically lurid" fortunes were mistakenly delivered to the event. |

| World News through Claire |
[Feb. 9th, 2006|12:28 am] |
I've been addicted to the news lately... This is an entry of Claire's views about the happenings of the world... You're welcome to read and to comment, but do remember these are my opinions and you do not have to agree... So if you're going to comment, do so respectfully (aka: do not yell at me) And I apologize for the length
"Jyllands-Posten called for and printed the cartoons by various Danish illustrators, after reports that artists were refusing to illustrate works about Islam, out of fear of fundamendalist retribution. The newspaper said it printed the cartoons as a test of whether Muslim fundamentalists had begun affecting the freedom of expression in Denmark." I know that, with that quote as testimony, the newspaper's motive is very immature and vindictive. I know that, some time ago, the same danish newspaper refused to publish cartoons on Jesus Christ. And now they hide behide their freedom of expression after showing their double standards. On the other hand, I know that Prophet Mohammed is one that adovates peace. I know that, the same Muslim extremists that claim the newspaper had insulted their prophet, are doing an even better job themselves. I know that, like always, the moderate muslims are muted I know that, this is the trigger that sparked the mount of explosives that's been building for quite a while, and it goes beyond the freedom of expression or religious beliefs. I know the tension before involved Europe not welcoming Muslim immigrants, and Muslims feel like they're discriminated against. And Muslims don't want to assimiliate to European values, and the Europeans feel threatened that their countries are being taken over by foreign beliefs. The cartoons, started as the newspaper "fighting back" against Muslim influence, blew everything into the open.
"The serious question for Muslims is whether the West extends freedom of expression to the crimes committed by the US and Israel, or an event such as the Holocaust. Or is its freedom only for insulting religious sanctities?" An Iranian newspaper said the above quote regarding the contest that it holds, which asks for cartoons on the Holocaust, challenging the European Union on their alleged double-standard freedom of expression. Their retaliation matched the Danish newspaper's level of immaturity.
I believe in freedom of speech & expression, but I also don't think this is really relevent here: Just because the newspaper have a right to publish the cartoons doesn't mean they should. In midst of the growing tension between the Europeans and the Muslims, it is clear that publishing those cartoons was an act of discrimination to which they hide behide that great "freedom" clause and do not own up their original motive. It is an irresponsible act of journalism - much like a gossip magazine invading the privacy of a celebrity, or voicing a threat in a crowded area that causes a stampede. I believe that line is crossed; publishing those cartoons came with a price where, buildings are blown, threats are made, chaos fill the streets, and innocents have died. But, I also know to not just blame the press. In the same way that I believe the press should've been respectful, those Muslim protestors should've respected the values of the West. They accuse of the press of having double standards, yet they carry double standards themselves: They expect others to respect their religious values, but don't respect others' political values. They preach on how important their religion is to them, but overtly act against the very teachings of their peaceful Prophet. Their very support of the Iranian newspaper doing the same thing that they're protesting against, is, of course, the perfect double standards. Once again, the voice of the moderate Muslim is lost.
And the obvious thing, of course, is that no cartoon should cause this much commotion.
The disrespect on both sides are unnecessary and unwarranted. I have known 5 year olds to be more considerate.
On matters of politics, I have been patiently waiting, but I am finally convinced that everyone, on either party, are retarded. Except for McCain and Obama, who, if you haven't heard, have kissed and made up. Let's just take this chance to go over some memorable highlights:
The scandulous Bush adminstration that's been using anti-terrorism as an excuse to do whatever it wants (wage war on whoever they feel like at the moment), that thinks it's above the law (unwarranted taps), that meddles with the world (tyrannically democractize everyone), meanwhile can't handle its own (Katrina). A weak State of the Union Address that said nothing. Sure, he mentioned everything, but there was not one specific plan on anything. He didn't even mention anything about an energy plan... Of course, we have an even weaker Democratic rebuttal of that weak Union Address.
And here is when I do some uncharacteristic bashing of the Democrats... I have waited, and waited, and waited, for SOMETHING to happen. And indeed, nothing did. From the lack of a clear leadership, to the lack of Alito filibuster, to the lack of an agenda. I don't agree with the Republicans, but at least I know where they stand (retardedly). Now, with the Republicans being split in 2 huge holes (both of which they dug for themselves), I'm still yet to see the Democrats seize this miraculous opportunity to get back some power. But, as we saw in Alito, the Democrats are not ready. Hey, Democrats, you can't win just by being "not Republicans"! I am disappointed. If I knew politics would get to this point, I would've studied it.
But, hope emerges as McCain and Obama kiss-and-make-up. I dream of the day when Obama runs for President with McCain as the VP. Yes, I do realize they're from opposing parties, that is why I dream of that day. Because, when that happens, the following will also occur: Israelis & Arabs world kiss and hug. N & S Korea would kiss and hug. Haitians & Jamaicans would kiss and hug as they vote happily. Chinese government would stop censorship.
(PS: If you don't know what I'm talking about, you should read the news more often... But I know we're all busy people, so I'll settle for knowing who Winston Churchill is) |

and then there was THE biggest dog i've ever seen in my life.. his tongue was like the size was of my hand... it was so cute tho... but if it ever like.. ran towards me, it can probably kill me... IF.. it could run...

i'm flip-flopless....
it makes me sad...
my poor flip flops...
all i ever wanted was a nice pair of blue flip flops that i could wear in the showers because i dont want any weird foot diseases...
i dont ask for much in life...
flip flops are like, things that u take for granted, until they're gone, and u realize u can't live without them and u miss them so much...
